Days ago my parents sent me a message from QQ about a loving care project named MaiTian Project(Crop Project). It is a pure nongovernmental volunteering action that specifically aims to provide an opportunity of education for the children in the poor mountain areas. Initiated by an individual, it was established in 2005 but has already set up many subsidiaries in Beijing, Shanghais, Guangzhou, Yunnan, Shandong, Jiangsu, and so on. My parents and I all agreed with their ideas and actions so we were seeking to join them. There happened to be an assembly in Yancheng at which members were going to celebrate their two-year anniversary. So our family drove there from Dafeng on the afternoon of July 14 to see what an organization it is.
The meeting spot was a restaurant. When we arrived there, a warm-hearted woman named ‘Smile’ received us. I was thinking to myself that her name matched her very well, because she never stopped smiling, to be precise, laughing. Smile is her net name. Actually, they all call each other by this way, like ‘Yangguang(Sunshine)’, ’Yeke(Nightguest)’ , ’Caoping(Lawn)’, which sounded very interesting. I noticed that many people including Smile were dressed in the same orange clothes, apparently it was their uniform. Orange is not my favorite color but at that time I fell in love with it at once because I realized the love and warmth it represented. I couldn’t wait to join them.
After brief introduction, all people present began to play games. The first one, which impressed me most, was very new and interesting. We were divided into two equal-numbered groups at random. Each group should make a circle and each member should sit on the lap of the person behind him/her, and the team that can last longer would win the game. To be honest, it was very tough to maintain the same gesture when someone sited on your lap and you couldn’t keep you balance. Therefore the key to win this game was to trust the one behind you and sit on his lap steadily, cause only by this way could the strength be transferred just like there were only two people performing. Through the game I truly felt the strength and importance of a team and I was also very delightful because our group won at last.
We sat ourselves in a circle and shared our happiness and feelings with each other. It was about time to go on into the second game. However some people were going to leave. By that time I knew that there were some people coming from Yangzhou Matitian to celebrate YM’s two year anniversary. To my opinion it was very moving and meaningful, and it made me love the whole Maitian Project much more.
The two MCs, Yeke and Qiongdan didn’t let us rest for a long time. They aroused our enthusiasm to take part in the next game—50 cents and one dollar. The rule was that each man represented 50 cents and each woman represented one dollar. MCs assumed that they were shopping at a grocery store and while they chose items, all members there should run in a circle. When MCs named a number like’6.5 dollars for a dozen of eggs ’ we had to match the number by forming small groups. Those didn’t picked by any group lost. I was lucky to survive four rounds because a mother and daughter always pulled me to make a team with them. In a round I happened to meet my mum and dad and the request was 2.5 dollars so we excitedly made an alliance. Though I didn’t survive until the end, I enjoyed this game very much.
After a short break we played a game which I named ‘mind acts upon mind’. It is quite popular at variety shows because it is too funny. The smiled woman, Smile, performed vividly and made all audiences laugh until gasp for breath. I also took part in the game, my partner is a gourmet named Yaoqianshu (Cashcow). We performed some words about food . The rule was that only I could look at the words the MCs offered, and then I had to perform for my partner, what she needed to do was to guess what the words were. For example, we met the word ‘cherry’, so I told her’ It’s something in Plants vs. Zombies which can explode.’, she quickly reacted and blurted the answer. I also performed the words ‘Rolling Donkey’, actually it is an old Beijing snack, anyhow I heehawed and pretended to roll on the ground. To my surprise, Cashcow guessed all the words I performed, what a fantastic tacit understanding!
Soon the dinner part came. I tasted the red wine and frowned, it was really not good tasted! But the dishes were delicious. Actually I didn’t have much time to eat because we kept toasting from one table to the next. All people were very friendly to my family and me because we were new comers. They told us a lot about Matitian Project, about their efforts and accomplishment.
We have to admit that the high tide of this night was the auction. This auction was to raise money for Yancheng Maitian Project. The auction items were all from the members. For example, pictures photographed by Kumaiye, paintings from Qiongdan and other members and handwork and so on. Those represent were all very enthusiastic about the auction. I got the first item, a table tennis pat to be a gift for my dad. But another girl, Yeke’s daughter, bought the photo I liked most. We had an intense bidding war, but I lost in a price of 600 Yuan at last, too sad, haha. Mum also asked me to bid for a beautiful paper-cut, but the competition was too tight, I spat out the tongue and gave up.
Good time was always so short. The world has no never-ending feast. It was the time to say good-bye to these lovely friends. But I believe that I can see them soon after I join the organization. I have no doubt that it is a wise decision because those really happy ones must be the really kind-hearted ones. |
